Q {heart} tradition

2.9.11-
 I love this month but it seems like it is quickly slipping by & I wanted to share some more of the fun little things we do as a family to celebrate Valentines Day.  I was digging through the Valentine plastic bin containers yesterday getting the rest of our decorations out & came across these-

I made these Valentine heart {pouches} back in 2004 for my girls {when I used to be into scrap booking} I got 2 pieces of 12x12 Cardstock, traced a heart shape, cut it out & then either stiched, staples, holepunched the 2 peices together to form a pocket pouch to put all their Valentines gifts in.  I designed each heart with each one of my girls in mind & made it unique for them.
{I probably should update them since it was 7 years ago but they don't seem to mind :)}
-an early Valentines morning in 2006-
Each year the girls set them out on their beds & find them filled up the next morning & hung either on their room door knobs, bed posts or off the dresser drawer knob.  They love getting up in the morning & finding these.  My favorite is when they run up the stairs in the morning & climb on our bed to look through them with us.
{notice the bed head in the pictures- LOVE it}
They are usually filled with a few little gifts, a shirt, & of coarse candy. You should see the secret stash of stuff I have ready to fill them up with this year- so fun!
{big wax lips or sucker lips are a must!}

-Em w/ her heart 2008-
I think I enjoy giving my girls something special for Valentines day because my Mom was always so cute & would give me a new shirt to wear to school that day. I always felt special & loved!
{my favorite was a short sleeve white shirt w/ puffy sleeves & it had little red hearts all over it}

Love this month- remember to share the LoVE!

Sunday

A SUPER {bowl} SUNDAY!

2.6.11-
What a great day today- don't you just love Sundays?
{recharges me for the week ahead}
 I have been thinking alot about food lately & since it is
Super Bowl Sunday {Go Packers!!}
it means eating lots of spicy chicken wings, chips, yummy dips & drinking bottles of Root Beer & Creme Soda. Ahhh! My husband & I made the mistake of going to Costco yesterday & I have never seen it so packed & crazy.  I guess everyone was gearing up for the big day. Do you eat or make anything special for the BiG game??

I also wanted to let you all know that the pictures from the Gourmet Club dinner I attended last week are up on the Delish my Dish blog
so go check them out.
{you can always get to it by clicking on the recipe card on the right hand side}
Maybe you can find something there to make for Valentines Dinner.   I will say that the halibut was delicious {& I'm not a fish person but... } I ate the ENTIRE thing, the cranberry sauce on top is a must- so good!  Hope you find a recipe that you will like to try.  I'm so glad that we have pictures on the blog to go with each recipe.
{If I don't see something ahead of time I won't make it}

  Happy Yummy Day!

Signs of a successful show!

2.4.11-

NO candy left! {yeah, which means I won't have to eat it all ;)}
Thanks to all of you who bought some yumminess to take home with you to enjoy.
{more of this goodness to come at The Hive in April}

Thanks to everyone that came from near {neighbors} & far {Utah Co.-holla!}  I really appreciate you coming & supporting me & my business. Whether it was the 20th time you have come to my show or the 1st time I always enjoy seeing friends & meeting new faces.
That is really what I love the most about doing this is the connections & friendships that have come into my life as a result of Hollyhocks & Honeybees.

Thanks to my sister Vaness for cashiering, my cute daughter Mace for weighing & bagging all the candy & of coarse my wonderful husband for letting me open up our home, dealing with my craziness & bringing home Subway for us all to eat- love you!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Tuesday

Happy {LOVE} month & gift idea!

2.1.11-
Yeah, I LOVE the LOVE month don't you??
I have so enjoyed reading all your comments & entries for the H&H frame GiVEAWAY that I'm back to share with you a fun thing I get to give away to my SWeeTie each Valentines Day. {one of our traditions}

I guess it's true what they say, opposites really do attract because I LOVE chocolate & my husband... not so much. So I wanted to give him something on Valentines Day that he would really enjoy.  So I give him his own custom Valentines candy box.
{I love getting it all ready each year & start looking around the stores
early for some unique treats}

-STEP 1- go buy any size heartshaped box of
Valentine Chocolates
-STEP 2- Eat all the yummy contents {keep a few if they like them} or just throw them all away! {so sad} You want to have an empty box to work with.
-STEP 3- Decorate the front of the box in a unique & charming way.
{it can't be Valentines day without a heart shaped doilie right??}

 -STEP 4- Find a variety of sweets & treats to make your SWeeTHeaRT happy & fill up each & every little compartment.
Mine loves anything chewy & gooey so I have used Valentines colored dots, holland mints, almond M&M's, hot tamales, Swedish fish, peppermint shortbread squares, good & plenty's & some sea salted almonds for the salty & the sweet.
-STEP 5- Throw in a little something extra like a gift card to his favorite place to grab lunch, a ticket to a movie or just make a stop at the photo booth at the Mall {he loves these!}
-STEP 7- Put the lid back on the box & give it away to someone you LOVE!

 I made this box for the 1st time 3 years ago & just keep reusing it each year. After all the treats are gone it gets packed up in the Valentines box until next year when it will be filled with different sweets.

So if you're looking for some unique yummy treats look no further because I'm a candy importer now..... I have been wanting to do this for a LOoOng time!!-
I have dreamed, for awhile now, of having big glass jars on my island filled to the brim with tasty treats during an H&H show for people to buy & I finally did it!  YEAH!
-Take it from me {since I have taste tested everything}  they are all delicious!

Yes, that's right you can buy them by the lb.!  Weighing the candy will remind me of the days I worked as a clerk at my Grandparents store & bagged up lbs. of chocolate clusters, cinnamon bears & peanuts for customers.  {I'm well trained ;) }

Hopefully this inspired you to give something to someone you love in a little bit of a different way this year.
-Don't forget- if you haven't entered the GiVEAWAY yet you still can on the post below.  You have Thursday morning to enter.

I'll be back tomorrow with a sneak peek of the

H&H SWeeT Show
This Thursday Feb. 3rd from 6-8 p.m.
& Friday Feb. 4th from 10- NooN

& later with more of my favorite ways to celebrate Valentines Day.
