I've been a busy bee today in the craft room creating lots of things for The Hive.  I love getting inspired & having a burst of creative energy, nothing like it!  It's been an enjoyable way to spend the day.

Get to the PoinT!

3.11.13- 

  I LoVE a garland! No matter the season there is ALWaYS a reason to hang up a banner.

{Quickly becoming one of my life's philosophies!} 

Just look how cute this is to welcome in Lucky Day which is right around the corner.  

{No pinching allowed in this house, we're 1/2 Irish!} 

This year I thought it would be fun to hang up some glittery, shimmery gold.  I went to the party store {Zurchers} & purchased a fringe garland. {for about $7}  Brought it home & it just looked a little plain & sad. It didn't have that PaZaaZZ I was hoping for so I decided to give it some edge & jazz it up just a bit.  

Disclaimer:  You will learn AlOT about me in these next pictures. I'm a crafter not a sewer so my rotary cutter is used for all sorts of things besides fabric. 

-How to make a gold fringe garland with some edge!- 

1. I left the garland attached to the packaging so it made it easier to cut through {a-ha!} & it kept all the garland intact. 

 2. I cut of 1/2 of the inner cardboard packaging so I could more easily cut through the glitter strands but still had something firm to hold onto to cut. 

3. I lined up my ruler to the center point & outside edge of the triangle I wanted to create.  

4.  Just start cutting!  I had to push fairly hard to get through all the layers & strands but it worked! Once that side was done I just repositioned my ruler to the center again & lined up the other outside edge of the triangle. 

 5.  Ta-Dah!  A fresh, updated gold garland with some future gold confetti strands to use later. {Bonus!}   

To finish it off, hold up the garland & give it a "hair cut" with a pair of scissors.  Cutting off some loose long strands & trimming it up a bit.  

* I will say that after I got it done & opened it up I decided to re wrap it all & cut off a another inch or so. I liked the look of a smaller triangle a bit better than a longer one.

I'm a picker!!

 3.6.13- 

  Haha, did that title make you go... huh?!?  

Well I can officially call myself a junk yard picker.  

{digging, looking under, picking up, turning over all sorts of JuNK}

Thanks to my sweet friend, Staci for taking me to a giant junk playground today. {so fun!} It's a place that I have probably driven by thousands of times in my life but have never stopped to explore before.

It started off with wondering what to wear?  

{I have really slacked off on want I wore Wends.  I'll try to do better} 

I did something I haven't done since probably Jr. High- wear pig tails.  Made me feel like a country girl ready to go outside & place all day. Actually I have a friend who wears her hair like that to the gym & she always looks so cute so I thought I'd give it a try. Dressed in layers today, grubby jeans & old shoes in case it was dirty & muddy.  

{oh, it was!} 

Met my friend & drove out together to the one & only Smith & Edwards. Holy cow, what a store & what a junkyard!  I never knew there could be so much "stuff" just lying around!  I can't believe I didn't take any pics of Staci & I digging through piles of junk but I think I was just overwhelmed & in awe of the amount of "stuff" was out in their yard.  CRaZY!! 

We were out looking around for a couple of hours. 

I found a few things right off the bat & held onto them.  We searched high & low trying to find some treasures.  But... it wasn't until the last row we looked that I fell in LoVE! 

I was immediately drawn to these thick, HEAVY, colorful rounds.  So many of them just waiting to get picked up. I set a few aside & wondered what they were used for originally & want I could do with them if I brought them home.  The first one I picked up was the short, chunky bright emerald green one. {Hello.... color of the year for 2013!} 

So he was the start of my stash.  I just kept digging more & more out & setting them aside.  

{I think Staci could tell I was in heaven!} 

 I love finding something that just makes you happy from head to toe!  These bright cool looking beauties were what I had been hoping of finding all day- treasures!!  

In their former life they were wheels used on a air jack lift.  

I'm thinking of using them as candle holders & stuffing them full of different heights & sizes of candles.  Loved the array of colors & was thinking they would be simply delightful to use for the Holidays.  I'm sure I won't be able wait that long to use them so I'll be on the lookout for how to to put them to use before then. 

Headed home- one happy girl!  Love DiSCOVERING new hidden gems to shop & explore. Such a fun day spent with a friend doing something that we both love. 

{Thanks again friend, such a fun day spent with you & your little assistant. Her hug goodbye made my day, so sweet!}

Lucky Day!

3.4.13-

  Finally got around to putting up some St. Patty's day decor this weekend. I'm part Irish you know with a name like Quigley.  This festive frame is one of my favorites to put out every year.  It's a vintage H&H frame I made a few years ago.  It just always makes me smile. Love the bright, cheerful colors & each unique letter that adds so much character.  

{The horseshoe U, I have to say is one of my all-time favorite things I've ever created!}

Makes me a bit sad that I wasn't able to have a show in time for Lucky Day stuff.  It's a fun holiday 

{& sometimes looked over} one to decorate for.

3.1.13- 

  Hello March {hopefully Spring is right around the corner} 

& hello My Craft Channel.  By the way did you know that March is National Craft Month?  I think it's the perfect day to share this with you. Remember the fabulous day I told you about filming down at My Craft Channel with my talented friend, Tausha?  Well... the episode airs today & you can watch it {Here} 

I had a wonderful time being with her & talking about a couple of things I'm passionate about,  creating & decorating.   

Here's one of my all-time favorite things! 

{if I was Oprah this would make my list each & every year!} 

My beloved Vintage Chicken Feeder 

{that has been put to use in so many ways!}  

This thing has held crisp apples, dainty glitter snowflakes, juicy hamburgers at BBQ's, magazines on the coffee table, sticky donuts, crunchy cookies for parties. 
You name it- it can hold it!

Here it is displayed on my kitchen island holding 2 of my other favorite loves: pop bottles & flowers.
