Something "Grate"

10.22.12-

I'll be on Studio 5 {TODaY}  at 11:00 on channel 5 for all you locals out there.  Tune in to see some charming decorating ideas I'll be showing that not only work for Halloween but transition fabulously into Fall.

I've had a lot of fun dreaming up some new projects & thinking outside the box a little bit using some things that I had just lying around in a new way.  I love when you find a useful way to use something ordinary in an extrodinary way.

These metal goodies are one of my absolute FaVORiTE Halloween decor accessories- be sure to tune in tomorrow & I'll show you how these make for a "grate" porch display on  Halloween night.

-Yes, I have a vintage cheese grater collection.
Who doesn't? ;)}

Ok, off to pack & get ready for a trip into the city tomorrow. Hope to hear from you soon!

My Pumpkin Philosophy 101

10.19.12-

It can't be the Fall around our house without some glittered pumpkins lying around.  This year A&E were excited to make the glittered pie pumpkins.
{Yes,  we use the ReaL thing- don't even get me started on those fake foam pumpkins with stubby stems, yuck! NOT in this house!}
The girls did a great job & we enjoyed placing them around our house, especially picking places where the light will hit them just perfectly
{of coarse}

-Found these Scrabble tile holders at a market for .50 each!  CHa-CHiNG!! The deal of the day so I had to buy a bunch-

  I love it when a new & unexpected way to decorate our home comes into view.  It always thrills me!  Don't you sometimes get stuck in a rut & do the same things over & over again? It's so easy to do that way but it limits your creative spirit too. So try to mix something up around your home- trust me you'll love it!

That's why I am just giddy over a new display in my home.  {Thanks to my Emily for wanting a change of decor in her room & getting rid of something for me to bring upstairs & discover a new use for.  I love it!}
-Our new pumpkin & gourd display -

-Placed the chalkboard up on top for some Halloween fun!-
 Set up in the kitchen nook by the table it's the perfect spot to put these beauties on display.
{after all they only come around once a year}
It took some squishing & maneuvering to get some of them into place but I just adore looking at them everyday & that we can enjoy them all the way until Thanksgiving. Don't just leave them outside on the front porch bring them indoors to enjoy too!

 This guy just makes me happy!  I guess I just appreciate all the different personalities {yes, they have personalities!}  sizes, shapes, colors & textures of all these beautiful fruits we get to see this time of year.  Maybe getting out of a rut might be buying some blue-ish, warty, bright orange, giant stemed pumpkins or white pumpkins this year instead of the same old jack-o-latern.  A great place to looks is farmers markets or  a quaint corner pumpkin stand & pick out something a little different that will really make a statement & can be a centerpiece all on it's on.  Look for pumpkins with fabulous stems too- that is a must!

-Side view of the display-
I especially love how it reflects in my Mirror, Mirror on the wall.  Remember these?  I decided to hang them up in my kitchen nook on one of the walls & have just been trying to figure out what to place on the other wall & I think I found my answer.

So excited to see what these wire cubbies will be filled up with next- oh, the possibilities!

I'm also excited to announce that I'll be on Studio 5 Tuesday sharing more other charming ways to decorate not only for Halloween but  the Fall months ahead. Can't wait.  Hope you'll watch Tuesday at 11:00 on Channel 5.
{Don't worry, I'll post a link if you miss it or are out of state}

Wednesday

My favorite day of the week- Wednesday!!

10.17.12-

  Just a couple of What in the world Wednesdays to share with you all today.
-Thanks to everyone who has shared your thoughts on magazines with me either here or over on FaceBook. If you haven't joined the conversation yet you still can on the post below.-

 First up- What in the world are these?  Have you seen them?  Do you have them in your home?  Well..... if not you should go out & get some.  I adore having these in my home during the Fall. I put them in a big vase on the center of my island.  I don't know the exact technical term to call them
{or even what to categorize them}
but my girls like to call them "pumpkins-on-a-stick" & that describes them pretty well.
{oh, by the way you can find them at Costco or in the floral section of some grocery stores}

 What I did with my hair today?  Well... I tapped into my inner 80's & crimped my hair.  I had the crimper already plugged in to do Audrey's hair this morning & thought- why not?  Haven't had this type of hair style for years!
{kind of fun though!}

What I'm thinking about doing this Saturday?
{You should be thinking about this too- if you live close by}
Love the S.O.S. Fall Market that is put on by my sweet friend {& fellow Cultivate girl} Sheryl & her daughter Karah.  I always walk out of there with at least a treasure or 2.  Can't wait to see all the things that will be at the Market this year.

-Sneak peeks on their blog- scrapsofsimplicity.blogspot.com-

Ok, that's what is up with me on this Wednesday.  Hope you are having a fabulous day too.

Tuesday

I have a craving

10.16.12-

It's Time to Feed My {Creative} Soul!!
I've been noticing some hunger pains for awhile now & I think I have it figured out- I'm craving magazines. I've gone away from having them around I think because of Pinterest.
Don't get me wrong I {heart} Pinterest, I think it's fabulous but there is just something about holding a bunch of crisp pages in your hands, seeing all the vibrant colors, the smell of a fresh new magazine & just tearing into it.
{& dog earring as I go}

I had let some of my favorite magazines subscription expire feeling like it was kind of a waste of $$ seeing how much I look on Pinterest throughout the week.  But I am seriously CRaViNG the feeling of holding some magazines in my hands.  I am just really missing them.  So I recently re-subscribed to Martha & Country Living to get some journalism back in the house.  But it's caused me to wonder...... what else is there?

So this is an interactive post- I want to hear from YOU
{yes, you reading right now}
-----------------------------------------------
??Honeybee wants to know-
What are your favorite magazines to thumb through? What magazine inspires you?  What one do you get giddy over when you open up the mailbox & see it lying in there just waiting for you to grab,  which magazine just really floats your boat?
{I've been wanting to try a few new ones but want some suggestions}
------------------------------------------------
By the way if it's easier to comment over on FB hop over there & tell me about your favorites.
You can get to it just by clicking {HERE}

-Thanks so much!-

A #25 & a few new emails

10.16.12-

  Back to share something that has been a joy for me whenever I get to host a show, like The Hive.

Anyone who puts an event on  {especially hosting it in your home or yard} knows that it is a big inconvenience it is for your family.  I'm so lucky to have such a wonderful supportive husband & girls who encourage & cheer me on in whatever I want to do.
I feel like I need to re-pay them a bit & do something nice for them for putting up with all the glitter around the house, furniture being moved around, tables & displays all over the place, pantry & fridge pretty much un-stocked for days & limited space to eat meals each day thanks to my island display.
{& that's not even the 1/2 of it}

So it's turned into a tradition that I take them out to eat when The Hive is all wrapped up.

This time we decided to go to Training Table.  The girls  love to order on the phone & wait for it to "buzz" at your table when your order is ready & come on- CHeeSE FRieS & special dipping sauce, it doesn't get any better than that!!

This is what I get each & every time I go there, the #25.
{I don't think I've ever had anything different}
My mouth is watering just looking at this picture. I love it!
{turkey, bacon, swiss, lettuce & tomato & their yummy sauce}

Despite the fun of knowing we will be going out to eat after The Hive this is another thing I look forward too.

It started out with Miss Mace {years ago} signing her name on my email /mailing list.  She would write a "fake" email every time & it was always the same= blueyes10.
{which funny enough she didn't choose to be her email address- go figure}
Well..... she finally has her own email & she did sign up on my list but look who else is thinking it will be fun to sign up for H&H emails?  That's right my "turtle twins"  Audrey & Emily are getting into the act.

-By the way, Thanks to everyone NeW who came to The Hive & wanted to stay in touch. I appreciate it!  The largest amount of new clients I've had yet- so exciting!-
When I saw this it just made me smile!!  I love what their "fake" emails are because they totally fit their personalities to a tee.  Audrey= The Star {notice how she writes her A's} & Emily= tumbling queen {yes, she is!}  I think she cartwheels or back hand springs her way around our house more than she walks.
{& I'm NOT kidding!}
The funny thing about this is I NEVER saw when Macey would sign the sheet it was always a surprise to me as I was looking through it after a show & A&E surprised me too.  Love these girls!

Oh, traditions, I love you!  The thrill of anticipating something & looking forward to little things that just make it all worth it in the end.  So thanks {Ty, Mace, Audj & Em} for putting up with me & allowing me to do what I love.
