  3. I love that Valentine's is a simple yet festive holiday. It's not over-the-top. This year is really not going to be over-the-top for us, we can't find the box with our Valentine decorations! We'll keep looking...

  7. Never been a huge fan of Valentines's to be honest,it's just so crowded to go do anything, and stuff. But I decided to change my attitude this year and have been going crazy making fun Valentine's decor! My hubs does a great job of surprising me by doing something fun every year too. Can't wait to come to your show!

  8. I remember my first Valentines with Adam, he tried to cook dinner for me and burned everything (it was pancakes) but atleast he tried...it was the sweetest thing!

P.S. Does the candy come with the frame? Jk, you just made it all look so delicious!

  9. Me and my husband have a book that we write in for all of the b-days, Anniversary, fathers and mothers day and Valentines Day. That way we can keep all of our notes to each other in a special book.

  11. My favorite memory of valentines day was when I was in school and my mom and me would spend all night making my valentines box. It was so fun for us and it was great spending that time with her.

  12. Our favorite thing about valentine's day is that Chad leaves each of us a card and treat on the table before he goes to work (while we are all still sleeping of course). My kids love it and he always picks a really funny card for me and I get a good laugh.

  14. I love all of the little presents that mom used to get us and the dorky cards (I still have the card from my Sophmore year of high school). Of course I love to get Valentine's from my cute nieces...hint hint. :)

  16. How darling is this? Then again everything that you make is darling! Really hoping to get to the show this time. Because I need more vday decor like a hole in the head! :)
Growing up, my mom always made valentines day extra special. We got a little love gift, red, heart pancakes and my favorite, she would paint a red heart (with acrylic paint)on our cheeks. Everybody at school thought that it was so cool! I thought it was pretty cool too! Now, I do the same with my chickadees-exceptI use washable markers. :)

  17. So Cute Melissa! I used to think that Valentine's Day was a day to celebrate romantic love. Now I see it as a day to celebrate my love for ALL the wonderful people in my life whom I love. I think a good old fashioned Valentine card might be in order for a few of those sweet people this year.

    XOXO

  18. I don't really have any traditions for Valentines Day other than trying to do something with my husband. Maybe I'll start this year since we'll be having our first baby, but as always with any holiday comes the great candy and you can't beat the JuJu Hearts from Hall's Store!!

  19. I recently found your blog and was so excited because I've missed your incredible work! The only Valentine tradition that we have as a family at this point, with such small kids, is to have pink heart shaped pancakes for breakfast. My girls love it! The hubby and I usually go out to eat at Granny Annie's, never a wait there and we love the food!!

  22. Oh, Wow!! I am excited for you** CROSSING FINGERS**... Ok, one of my favorites is that when I was a kid, my mom would make a huge heart cake for us kids and then little candy grams to go with it every Valentines day.. Then I as a mom, do the same thing for my kids. I also, do a candle light dinner for them as well... I love, the LOVE MONTH!!!!

  23. Its a day to show the one (or ones) how much you love them! I give all my kids and hubby gifts...everyone I love the most!! I think its fun to have a special breakfast with gifts for the kids and a special dinner (out to eat of course!) and gift for my hubby! This will be my last valentines with all my kids at home, wouldnt my table be cute with this frame on it?!?

  25. I used to hate Valentines Day because I thought it was only about having a boyfriend or such, but I have since matured and realized it isn't about having a significant other or not (although I am happily married going on ten years). It is about loving all those around you and making sure they know it. I think I can dedicate one day a year to loving other people if not more, but you can choose what you want it to be. You can choose a depressing holiday of self loathing or a day to confess your love to all those you do love. I look forward to Valentines each year. It is a sweet little break from the dreariness of winter too!

  27. I was in the car the other day and came to the realization that Valentines is my favorite holiday! I love that it has little commercialization. I love how just a little thing at Valentines can make such a big deal. I hate to admit it...but I'm a hopeless romantic, I believe in fairy tales even though, I've seen real life....you still have to believe. To me Valentines is all about how I make other people feel. I have some friends/family members who are alone. And there are amazing people. I like celebrating how much I love people and how great they are! I usually send out lots of cards, goodies, and packages. This year I took 2 liter pop bottles, cleaned out, cut a slit, and filled them with red and pink confetti, goodies, love notes, etc. and mailed them with the contents visible! And with Valentines cards, I'm a big believer in homemade. Dollies, glitter, stickers, sequins, whatever we can find...with handwritten sentiments, even for my five year old daughter in her kindergarten class. I just think in this day and age where people are busy and buy everything, handmade says something store bought cannot. (no offense, store bought, my daughter loves getting them) I just want her to know how important it is to show people they're special! So ya, I'll see you at the sweet shop!
P.S. Hands down, Necco sweethearts are the best Valentine candy ever! ;)

  28. Not a lot of traditions here, but of course heart-shaped sugar cookies and lots of candy. That makes any day a good day for me!

  29. I am so excited to come to your show. It look's like it is going to be so fun.

I love the sweet treats and thoughtful things I get to do for the people I love. Oh, also the colors and treats. Did I mention TREATS? MMMMM....

  30. I love seeing the smile on the face of my little (and big) kids when they find a cute tiny heart hidden under their pillow with a little love note from "your biggest fan". This is especially exciting for them when it is NOT Valentine's day. They love to then "Pass it forward" to each other. Who couldn't use a little extra love especially from someone you have to share a room with.

  31. Hi Melissa, I love the fun idea you shared for your Hubby.....I think I will be copying that one for Kev! My favorite tradition the past few years for Valentines Day is having a party for my grandchildren, we have a grand time!!! I am so excited for your show this Thursday, it is always soooooo much fun and looks extra fun this year with all the yummy goodness!!

  33. I love Valentines Day!! I have a special party with my cute little grandkids. It's a tradition to go to Nana's and make and decorate sugar cookies, make Valentines for their Mom's and Dad's, eat lots of yummy candy, pizza with heart shaped pepperoni (there favorite), a movie and lots of kisses and loves. We have a slumber party with lots of giggles and staying up late. I love to spend time and make fun traditions with these little ones. I think it's important for their Mom's and Dad's to spend quality time together, so it's fun to give them a break at Valentines Day. I'd love to have your cute frame on my counter with a picture of the little ones together... I'm excited to come to your show this week..

  34. I wish my husband was a romantic, but that is not one of his strengths, so I don't expect too much out of Valentines day. He has learned the hard way though because he really screwed up one year, so I went out and bought myself a whole new set of living room furniture!! He'll never forget Valentines Day again. That was an expensive present :) He is an amazing man, just not the thoughtful, romantic type, so I love him for his other strengths! Who knows what will happen this year!

  39. My favorite thing about Valentines day is decorating! I love wandering through the stores and dreaming about what my perfectly decorated house. I almost never actually buy anything because it's not perfect enough for me...I usually just walk away with chocolate of some sorts. Is there such thing as imperfect chocolate. I guess that's my second favorite thing about V-Day! :)
