Popping in to say a quick.....

6.12.12-

-A peek at a cute new little item I'm working on for the show this Thursday Night 6-9-
I'm so proud to say that H&H's motto is & always has been: each item is unique & one of a kind. I love this because as I was busy making up lots & LoTS of colorful poppies for the
H&H Summertime Show
I couldn't help from thinking this one was the cutest...

but then I finished this one & fell in love with it...

then this darling one popped up...

& then I looked over the whole bunch & couldn't decide which one was the cutest!
 Oh, there is just about 20 other fabulous color & patterned paper combos that I just simply adore.
{How, am I going to decide which ones I want to keep around my house?}
 So which one would you choose to "pick" & take home?  Do you have a favorite?

I love what I do & keeping it all fresh & making no two look exactly alike. It makes the whole creative process so exciting for me.  I guess that's why I've been doing H&H for 12 years now.

Ok, back to work lots to still do!
{Can't wait to reveal it all to you on Thursday at the Summertime Show}

Wednesday

Right around the corner

6.6.12-

  Last month, while waiting for Miss Mace at the dentist's office,  I picked up the latest issue of Real Simple.  I was reading about some useful tidbits, timely trivia & catchy conversation starters & came across something that intrigued & lit a fire inside of me.

If you know we well you know that I love all things Lemon!
{except Lemon Bars, is that weird?}
I always have a lemon wedge in my water, love any product that is lemon scented & if there is anything on menu with lemon in the title it sounds wonderful to me.

So back to my story about the magazine...
I found out that National Lemonade Days were coming up in June {My B-day weekend in fact!} & read about an opportunity to help raise money for Children's Cancer Research.  The idea is to have a Lemonade Stand & donate all the proceeds to pediatric research.
{who doesn't love a Lemonade stand in the Summertime?}
It was started by 4 year old Alexandra Scott in 2000, in Connecticut,  when she tried to raise money to help fight the cancer she was diagnosed with.  She passed away in 2004 but since then Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation has collected more than $50 Million to help fight pediatric cancers.

I thought this would be an excellent way for us to give back & a wonderful way for my girls {A&E} & I to celebrate our  birthdays this week.

My girls have ALWAYS had a Lemonade Stand each Summer & we love to make  & decorate Sugar Cookies together to sell along with the lemonade. We used to make just one batch but quickly learned, {after years of experience} that we better double the batch to keep our customers happy.
{they are always a hit & if I say so myself & really, really good!}
-Mace baking up a batch in 2004 in our Layton kitchen-
 Miss Mace has had a Lemonade stand since she was 6 years old.  We used to live on a corner & it was the BeST place to get passer buyers to stop for an ice cold beverage.

- Sister, Audrey & her friend helping out at her Stand on the corner of 50W. & 2150 N.-

-Some happy customers from down the street, cute B&B Brown-

-Macey's 1st stand at our new home, in 2007-

-The Quig girls Lemonade Stand in 2008. The famous YeLLoW bench has been used alot over the years, I'm sure it will make an appearance this Saturday from 1-3 as well-
I'm looking forward to my girls & I working together to make signs, bake cookies & mix up gallons of Lemonade all for a good cause. I'm grateful for the health & strength that my girls & I have been blessed with. I'm glad we can be a part of this foundation & try to help ease the  suffering of so many children through out the world by contributing to fund research & hopefully help
{in some small way} find a cure for pediatric cancers by doing something that is fun for us & that we love to do each year.

So......
If you live in the area or close enough for a quick drive up the canyon on Saturday be sure to swing by our home, grab a cookie & wet your whistle with a refreshing ice cold glass of Lemonade & help out a good cause.
-We are so happy to be a part of this-

Tuesday

Something's Up.....

6.5.12-

 A banner that is so it must mean that a party, celebration or event is going to happen in our home.
{You know I love to have a reason to hang up a banner!}

Yep, all 3- it's Birthday week around here.  My girls {A&E} are having a birthday along with mine all in the same week.  So it's fun to put up some decorations & leave it up for awhile to celebrate.
-Easy, crepe paper twist banner. This is the 1st to go up, more to follow- all different of coarse to keep with "the theme" ;) -
I'll be back to show more of the fun things I'm going to do to celebrate their big day.
{It's a BiG one- they enter the double-digit stage, the BiG 1-0}

They were so funny when we discussed what they wanted to do for their birthday. They both said to me,
"Mom, we don't want a theme & we don't want certain colors for our party"
{such a sad day for me}
They went on to tell me that they just wanted a "Random Party" so that's what we are going to do.
{Look-out- I've never been so care-free or random before when it comes to throwing a party. But so far so good, it's a lot less stressful let me tell you}

I wanted to share just one Random thing we did so far.  Do you love the $1 section at Target as much as I do?  They have such cute things in there, I always have to browse when I walk in the door.  I simply adore all the Little Miss & Mr stuff they have for sale right now.
{Maybe it just takes me back to my childhood}
 I love all the nostalgia of those little people. So that's what we did for invites, so simple & so easy & fun.  The girls loved picking out which little character went to each of their friends.
-Audrey, Little Miss FuN for sure!  This girl never has a dull moment, she finds joy & fun wherever she goes-
 We sealed the envelope up with some Washi tape, that I also got at Target, LOVE that stuff!! Have you tried it yet?
{We put a stamp on them & into the mailbox off to their friends.  I love doing that, such a little surprise to get a cute envelope in the mail rather than running them around door to door}

-Em showing off her stash of invites. She loves Little Miss Sunshine because her favorite color is YeLLoW & always has been-
Ok, that's all for today- I'll be back with more.
{I can't wait to tell you what I'm doing to their room the morning of their B-day. {Shhh... I can't let them see it} I saw the idea on Pinterest a couple of months ago, loved it, pinned it so I would remember to do it & it was re-pinned from my board 3,775 times!! Crazy!!}

{M}

*oh, also Birthday shout-outs to my friends, Michelle & Cory this week too. Love you both!

Friday

Hello.... June!

6.1.12-
  Welcome... to a brand new month!
I love this month for many reasons & I'm sure I'll share a few of them with you as the month goes on.
{It's birthday & party season around here- lots of events coming up!}

Right now I wanted to say how much I love having friends in my life. For those who I've known for a long time, those I've met because of this blog & friends from near & far who bless my life every single day.

Today I made a delicious, easy & fresh salsa recipe that I got from one of my dearest & best-est friends,{N}.
It is sooo easy to make- give it a try.
{also thanks to my next door friend,{N}, for letting me borrow her amazing high power blender to mix it all together. Oh, my goodness.. the PoWER! Hmmm... maybe that's something I may want for my upcoming birthday. Are you listening Schmoopie? ;) }

Summer Salsa
{one of the best things about Summer- salsa!}

1 medium onion, diced
1-2 cloves garlic, diced
1-2 tsp. lime or lemon juice
1 tsp. onion salt
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 T. red wine vinegar
1 can diced green chili peppers
1 large can whole tomatoes
1 can stewed tomatoes
1 can diced jalapenos {or 1/2 of a fresh one}
1 bunch cilantro,  chopped
1 pkg. salsa mix Concord foods mild mix found in the produce section.
crushed red pepper to taste

combine all ingredients in a blender for 5 seconds.
No longer or the salsa will be runny!

I also like making new friends from far & near.  I packaged up 3 adorable posies & sent them off to a new friend of H&H in Virginia.  Thanks for the order, {A}enjoy the Posies & be sure to tell all your friends back on the East coast about Hollyhocks & Honeybees

 Also thanks to another friend of mine who called me up one day & gave me all of her old clothing patterns
{she had bags full!}
I have enjoyed using them as stuffing & filler whenever I send or give gifts- makes for a charming touch to anything.
Thanks, {A}

Hope you are having a day filled with something fabulous.
Have a wonderful weekend!
{Don't forget about pre-orders for the Summertime Show- last day to order is Tomorrow!!}
